Zen Master Jisu Sunim, July 9 - 11

It is with great joy that we announce you the venue of Zen Master Jisu Sunim to Portugal to lead a Meditation retreat at Quinta das Águias from July 9 – 11.

Zen (known in Korea as Son) is a school of Mahayana Buddhism. Buddhism came from India to China where it is known under the name of Chán from where it spread to Vietnam, Korea and Japan. Zen is derived from the Sanskrit word Dhyana and means meditation.

According to Zen, meditation and Dharma practice are imperative to the realization of the enlightened mind. Realization through direct experience is far more important than study of the texts. The teachings from the Buddha have been transmitted in a direct line from realized teacher to disciple, in his turn becoming a realized teacher.. In Zen this direct transmission is crucial.

Meeting a authentic Zen Teacher is therefore a privilege of inestimable value, since his transmission, guidance and instructions can help us to become free from the sufferings of Samsara.

Jisu Sunim, born in South Korea, is a Zen Buddhist monk since 1978. He spent a great deal of his life as ordained monk in retreat. He has been teaching occasionally in various countries; UK, Germany, Slovenia, Russia and Portugal. His last visit to Portugal was in 1998. At present Jisu Sunim is resident monk in the Korean Temple, YounHwaSa (meaning Lotus Flower Temple) outside London, UK.

The retreat at Quinta das Águias is a unique opportunity to meet this authentic Zen Teacher and receive his teachings and guidance for meditation.

The teachings will be in English with a simultaneous translation in Português.
